Turkey will attend the Expo 2012 Yeosu International Fair, the main theme of which is “Living Oceans and Shores: Resource Diversity and Sustainability”, organized between the dates of May 12– August 12 in the city of Yeosu in South Korea with a very rich organization.

The activities ranging from delicious dishes from the Turkish cuisine, to contemporary and traditional artistic activities, the Anatolian Fire show, concerts, as well as stunning documentaries about recent history are aimed to reach 2 million people. The design, production and activities of the Turkish pavillion are organized by İkon Events.
Turkey will be one of the most ambitious exhibitors of Expo 2012 Yeosu International Fair organized in South Korea and it is expected that 12 million Korean, Chinese, Japanese people as well as people from neighboring countries will visit the fair. Turkey will organize numerous impressive and glamorous activities during the fair which will take place between the dates of May 12 – August 12 August 2012.
The Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay and Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Mehdi Eker attended the reception organized in the Ceylan Intercontinental Hotel for the promotion of the organisation.
İkon Events Managing Director Ali Güreli said that they will not only design and produce the Turkish pavillion but also organize all of the activities there and added: “We will be organizing a very comprehensive and impressive show to showcase Turkey in the most effective way. Including the 5th World Water Forum, the largest organization so far in Turkey, as a team which has successfully carried out many international activities, we believe that we will create a strong value on behalf of Turkey.”
The Minister of Culture and Tourism Ertuğrul Günay said that Turkey will attend the fair offering great promotional opportunities at international scale with ambitious and colorful activities that reflect all aspects of Turkey’s deeply rooted culture and added:
“Turkey is a country enriched by its history, culture and civilizations so Turkey’s participation in the fair will also be an opportunity for all visitors that should not be missed. The Expo 2012 Yeosu International Fair is an important opportunity for us to increase Turkey’s brand image and we will participate with large scale and impressive activities. Turkey is no longer an inward looking country. The stability and speed of development we have achieved so far does not only allow us to integrate with the world but also set a successful role model for others. I believe that in addition to sharing this success model, we will also contribute to attracting investment.”
21 June will be ‘Turkey National Day’
The theme has been determined as “The Land of Civilizations: Connecting Seas and Countries” and most of the activities will take place over an area of 1 thousand 4 hundred m2 exhibition area. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will carry out all of the activities of Turkey. Approximately 1 million people are expected to enjoy these artistic, cultural and tasty activities of Turkey throughout the fair. ‘Turkey National Day’ activities will take place on 21st June.
What Awaits Visitors in the Turkish Pavilion?
The concerts by Dolapdere Big Gang, Gypsy All-Stars, the Janissary Band, the Konya Turkish Tasavvuf Music Ensamble, Dolunay Obruk Jazz Quintet, Water Drums and Lepidus Quartet will add color to the fair. In addition to the fashion show called “Ece” by the young fashion designer Simay Bülbül, “Water Marbling”, “Turkish Tile”, “Calligraphy” and “Miniature” performance by successful artists will give a flavor of traditional Turkish art to visitors.
The Turkish cuisine will be one of the sections of the Turkish pavilion attracting the highest interest. The Turkish cuisine spanning over an area of 250 m2 will offer traditional dishes and desserts. The Maraş ice cream served in two different points will offer both a taste and visual show together.
Turkey’s richness of seas and its culture will be shared with visitors through impressive exhibitions and documentaries. Documentaries such as “the Piri Reis Map”, “Marmaray and Yenikapı Excavations”, “Turkey’s Underwater Richness”, “The Transformation of the Golden Horn”, “Waterfront Residences”, “Istanbul from the Eye of a Fish”, “Physician Fishes”, presentations on “Sea Life and Shores of Turkey” on touch screens, “the Black Sea Education Box” practice, the exhibition on “Korea – Turkey Relations” as well as other productions that provide information about İzmir’s candidacy for 2020 Expo and Turkey’s economic development in the last 10 years will meet visitors.
Consisting of 30 pieces from the Istanbul Archeological Museum, 35 pieces from the Topkapı Palace, 30 pieces from the Turkish-Islamic Arts Museum and 10 from the Anatolian Civilizations Museum, the exhibition on Anatolian civilizations chronologically displayed can be visited from 30 April until July in Seoul in the Korean National Museum and from July till January in Busan.
The Contemporary Face of Art in Turkey
The Turkish Contemporary Art exhibition, planned by Turkey’s first and only contemporary art fair ‘Contemporary Istanbul’, consists of more than 130 pieces of work by 40 Turkish young contemporary artists. The curator of the exhibition is Prof. Hasan Bülent Kahraman and the fair can be visited between 8 – 30 June. The exhibition will take place in the ARA Center, the contemporary art center of Seoul.
The Theme of the Turkish Pavilion The main theme has been chosen as “Turkey, the Land of Civilizations: Connecting Seas and Continents – Turkey: Civilizations Along Seas, Seas Along Civilizations – Water and Sea, from a Drop to an Ocean” and the logo has been designated as an evil eye bead with shades of blue ranging from dark to light to reflect the themes of “Water” and “Sea”, “Drop” and “Ocean”. |
